A common cyber-attack tactic where a perpetrator diverts large amounts of traffic towards a particular network or service in an effort to disrupt normal services. Large amounts of incoming data can overload a particular services’ network, which causes legitimate requests to bounce or timeout. Services that are not protected against distributed denial of service (DDoS) attacks will typically become unusable during the attack period.
